A life in images
Pere Lluís León lives in Premià de Mar, a small seaside town north of Barcelona. He began his drawing studies at a very young age at a private academy in the city, then enrolled at the Llotja School to study illustration — one of Spain's oldest design schools — and later at the Barcelona Massana School of Arts and Design.
His vocation for the graphic arts led him to Paris, Brussels and Rotterdam, where he combined professional work with intensive painting studies across Europe. Upon returning to Barcelona, he specialised in medical and scientific illustration, a discipline that would define two decades of his career.
He collaborated with the Faculty of Medicine at Bellvitge, the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Vall d'Hebron, the UAB, the Lapeyronie Hospital in Montpellier, the 12 de Octubre University Hospital in Madrid, and numerous international academic institutions. His anatomical and surgical illustrations became trusted references for surgeons, professors and editors of specialised medical books worldwide.
Throughout his extensive career, thousands of illustrations have been published in medical textbooks and international scientific journals. Today he balances medical illustration with graphic design and expressionist painting — canvases charged with colour, humanity and Mediterranean light that explore the human condition through a deeply personal lens.
